Brian Gray is an emerging artist located in Jacksonville FL but can be seen all over lately. Brian was born in Detroit MI where he was influenced by urban/graffiti art work at a very early age. This had influenced his work to this date. “When I first saw graffiti and urban art work in general in Detroit, I never even thought it was done by real people, there was always this mystery and magic behind the work. It was cool to just see images that were not there yesterday just pop up out of nowhere.” Brian is influenced by so many things from the world of illustration. Some of his early inspiration came from vintage comic books, vintage hand drawn advertising, MAD Magazine, and the usual Saturday morning cartoons of the 80’s. Over his older years he became heavily influenced by the “lowbrow” art movement and the underground art scene that dominates so much of Los Angeles and the West Coast scene in general. He began to follow several artist that he would learn about through different art mags, blogs, and Juxtapoz magazine. Artists like Joe Ledbetter, Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Greg”Craola”Simkins, David Hovarth, Buff Monster, the list can go on and on. It was at about that time that Brian decided that,”If they can do it so can I”. Brian’s art work can be seen everywhere from Detroit, NY, L.A., Miami, and in group show across the U.S. Brian has been featured in the “readers art” section of Juxtapoz magazine, had one of his paintings featured in MAD Magazine, and has done many a interview with local magazines, blogs, and the Florida Times Union to name a few accomplishments. Brian best describes his work in his own words- “My work is fun, imaginative, and whimsical but, with a slight touch of a hidden darkness.”
